Bongo-Beo (U/E), July 13, GNA – The Chief and people of Bongo-Beo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have appealed to the government and the Bongo District Assembly to reconstruct their market, which is at the verge of collapse.
The market is one of the major revenue mobilisation centres in the district, from which the assembly accrues revenue towards the development of the area.
Naba Joseph Amarle Anabila, Divisional Chief of Bongo-Beo, said this at a monthly meeting with elders and assembly members of the nine villages under him to discuss development programmes for the area. He commended the government, World Vision International (WVI), the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the Bongo District Assembly for their support in the form of other infrastructure for the Beo community. Naba Anabila appealed to the government to rehabilitate the bridge on the Azambogo River, which was constructed since independence to link up with neighbouring Burkina Faso and the rest of the district, but had broken down.
Some of the development support the community had benefited from, he said, included the construction and rehabilitation of schools, the construction of a clinic, “Food for the Needy” programme by CRS, and the construction of day care centres dotted in about six communities in the area.
Naba Anabila praised government for extending electricity to the area and appealed to the assembly to ensure that communities not connected to the national grid were connected soon.
