Bolga welcomes 19 Peace Corps Volunteers from the US

Bolgatanga, Sept. 29, GNA – Nineteen Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV) from the United States were at the weekend treated to a warm welcome in Bolgatanga with cultural display and dancing.

They were also met by host families whom the volunteers would stay with for six weeks before embarking on their various assignments. Miss Zenabu Wasai, Upper East Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a welcoming speech expressed delight that PCV activities, which started in education has been expanded to cover health, water and sanitation, the environment and gender issues.

Miss Wasai assured the volunteers that the region is a peaceful place where they can move about freely to see a lot of tourist attractions without fears.

The Peace Corps Site Director, Mr J.K. Tufuor commended the volunteers for taking the bold decisions to serve in Ghana and the Upper East Region, where their service is most needed.

He urged them not to hesitate to report challenges that might come their way and hoped they would have a nice stay in the country.
