Bolga MP tours constituency to assess conflict situation

Bolgatanga, Jan 30, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Mr David Apasera, at the weekend toured Bukere and Soe, both within his Constituency, where communal violence erupted recently between the youth of the two areas, leading to the death of a 15-year-old JSS girl.

His visit was to assess the extent of damage and to appeal to the chiefs, opinion, leaders and other stakeholders to help maintain peace in the areas to help promote development.

Mr Apasera enjoined the chiefs of both areas to facilitate and ensure the return of peace in the two communities.

He entreated the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assess the level of damage caused in order to enable him to liaise with the Municipal Assembly to ensure that they were rehabilitated. Mr Apasera commended the Paramount Chief of Bolgatanga, Naba Martin Abilba III, for setting up a six-member-committee to help find an amicable solution to the conflict and appealed to the committee to be impartial and neutral in discharging its duties.

The Chiefs and people of the two areas assured the MP that they would ensure that peace return to their communities. Mr Apasera further commended the security personnel for maintaining peace and order and entreated them to continue to ensure that absolute peace prevailed in the area. He asked those who fled from the area to return to their abode, since there was adequate security for their protection.
