Boateng to contest Owusu-Yeboa at Biakoye NPP primaries

Kwamikrom (V/R), July 11, GNA – Mr. Evans Collins Boateng, Executive Secretary of the Export Promotion Council was at the weekend introduced as an NPP parliamentary candidate for the Biakoye constituency in the 2004 general elections at a meeting at Kwamikrom. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Boateng said party members should not allow tribal tendencies to destroy the rank and file of the party in the constituency.

He said the party was now divided after the Volta Regional Minister Nana Kwasi Owusu Yeboa had indicated his intention as an aspiring NPP candidate for the same constituency.

He explained that any number of aspiring candidates could contest, but the final decision was vested in the balloting at the primaries. Mr. Komla Oni, an Accra Barrister who also addressed the meeting said the original list of delegates that voted the present executives into office was the constitutional one as against a new list compiled by the executives for the primaries, which he said would not be accepted. Mr. Senyanu Agbenoto, a veteran politician and former constituency chairman (NPP) who traced the history of the party in the area described the up-coming primaries as a “bitter battle.”

He sad there was the need for party education, adding that the idea of ‘camp ‘a’ and camp ‘b’ would not do anybody any good.
