Kumasi, Feb. 26. GNA – Parents and students have been asked to blame the Ghana Education Service (GES) and not the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), should the Association decide to resume its suspended strike action.
The Association said this is because the GES has so far deliberately refused to show any sign of honouring the promises they made before the nation’s parliament with regards to addressing the grievances of members of the Association, raised during the last strike action.
This was contained in a statement issued in Kumasi on Friday by the Ashanti Region Branch of the NAGRAT and signed by Mr. Addai-Poku Christian, Regional Chairman of the Association. The statement said, it was difficult for members of the Association to believe how the same grievances have been allowed to transcend “four consecutive strike actions without any concrete measures to resolve them once and for all”.
The NAGRAT said with the turn of events, they have become fully disappointed in the GES since it has displayed bad faith. “For us the painful aspect of it all is for the Director-General’s propensity to always come out quickly to express feign surprise and paint the picture as if all is well, but knowing very well that he has not made any effort to keep his promise”, the statement added. The statement said the Association is aware of the repercussions “of our strikes and even the threats of it on our students and the entire nation, however when the inactions of those who are expected to act can no longer be contained, the end result is to go all out for what we rightly deserve”.
The NAGRAT also stated clearly that they were not in competition with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) neither were they craving for personal glories.
