Black Queens Receive Outstanding Allowances Ahead of Crucial WAFCON Decider

Ghana’s Black Queens have received a timely boost ahead of their must-win Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash with Tanzania, as the Ministry for Sports and Recreation has cleared all outstanding player allowances.

The long-awaited payments were confirmed by Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Her Excellency Charity Gbedawo, during an exclusive interview with JoySports on Sunday.

“They had a few challenges along the line… their finances were delayed a bit. But to the glory of God, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, facilitated the quick release of the money, and they have been sorted out,” she said.

The ambassador expressed optimism that the resolution of the financial issues will lift team morale as they prepare for their final Group C fixture.

“Their morale has gone up, so on this note, I believe that tomorrow’s match they are going to make Ghana proud. I know they will score and qualify for the next stage,” she added.

The Queens currently sit bottom of the group with just one point after a 2-0 defeat to South Africa and a 1-1 draw with Mali. The team is without a win in their last four WAFCON matches, a run that includes two draws and two losses.

Monday’s match against Tanzania is now make-or-break. Ghana must win, and win well to have any hope of advancing. A convincing victory could see them progress either by overtaking one of the top two or sneaking through as one of the best third-placed teams.

Head coach Kim Bjorkegren and his players will be hoping that the financial clarity off the pitch can now translate to focus and execution on it.

Kick-off is set for 20:00 local time at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
