Kumasi, Jan.18, GNA – The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abukekr, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has challenged Christians to make a huge difference in society by keeping faith with the principles of hard work and integrity.
He described as worrying, the hypocrisy and pretensions of many professed Christians who behave like angels when they are in the church but once outside, show all sorts of ruthlessness and insensitivity to their neighbours and other fellow human beings.
The Right Reverend Abubekr was speaking at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Aldergate Methodist Church at the Buokrom Estate in Kumasi on Sunday.
He reminded them that as followers of Christ, they were enjoined by their faith to set good examples and lead exemplary lives. This, he said, demand of them the attitude to resist and fight corruption in all forms, doing away with cheating both at home and the workplace and approaching their work with dedication. Bishop Abubekr said: “we should not be just nominal Christians and proclaim Christ by mouth but strive to become a genuine reflection of Christ’s life”.
“It is important that we grow in God and continue to draw strength from him”.
He also spoke of the need for them to show love, care and affection for the needy, the poor, the weak and the socially disadvantaged.
The Methodist Bishop asked members of the Buokrom Society to be grateful to God for the giant strides the Church had made within a decade of its existence.
Mr Victor T. Gyimah, the Society Steward, said from a modest beginning of 40 members, the congregation has now grown to 350. He said through their own resources they have completed the basement of an ultra-modern chapel and that work would soon start on the second phase of the project.
Other projects lined-up for implementation are the establishment of a school and the construction of a Mission House.
