Birim South DCE Appeals to striking teachers

Akim Oda (E/R), Sept. 22, GNA – The Birim South District Chief Executive, Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, has appealed to striking teachers in the District to go back to the classroom, as efforts were underway to address their grievances.

He said the Government would always keep faith with them, adding that discussions on their grievances were on going. Mr Busumtwi was addressing a meeting of teachers who had embarked on strike action since Tuesday, at Akim Oda on Thursday.

The Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr Solomon Gyaba-Mensah, appealed to the teachers to exercise restraint and not to do anything contrary to the Labour Law. He said the Joint Consultative Forum would hold a meeting in Accra on Friday to further deliberate on their grievances and that they should call off the strike action to await the outcome of the meeting. The District GNAT Secretary, Mr Kwabena Bediako, urged the teachers to see themselves as part of the Association and work hand in hand. The District Director of Education, Mrs Stella K. Nanor, told the teachers that furniture was being distributed to their schools and advised them to call off the strike and go to receive their consignments.

At the end of the meeting, the teachers resolved that they would not go back to the classroom until all their grievances had been address.
