Biometric voter registration begins on Tuesday July 10th at Akuse

Biometric voter registration exercise for this year’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections begins at the Akuse area on Tuesday July 10, to July 19, 2012.

The delay for the registration exercise in the area was as a result of a Legislative Instrument that placed the area known to be part of Eastern Region, under the Greater Accra Region.

This led to a petition to the Supreme Court by some chiefs from the Manya Krobo Traditional Area. The Supreme Court upheld the petition and the area was declared part of the Eastern Region.

According to the Deputy Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Eric Mensah-Bonsu, each of the 12 polling stations in the area would have a biometric voter registration kit and there would be extra four registration kits to serve as buck-ups in case any of the kits break down.

He said the 12 polling stations cover six electoral areas of the place comprising Amedeka, Akuse Zongo, Osokotu, Salon, Bungalow and Akutwe.**
