Biometric cards will improve healthcare delivery – CEO

Mr. Nathaniel Otoo, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority says the introduction of the biometric cards would improve service delivery and promote efficiency.

He said unlike the old magnetic cards which were easily replicated or produced by fraudsters with sometimes unreliable data, the new cards are generated through human data.

Mr. Otoo told the Ghana News Agency during a tour and meeting with districts and regional officers that the instant issuance of the health insurance card will definitely enhance the welfare of the scheme and access to quality health care.

“With the new system, a code is generated on the time, date and place of visit.”

The CEO said already, 8,620,019 biometric cards have been given out to beneficiaries, adding, “We are expecting about 11 million people by the close of the year “.

Mr. Otoo on the other hand lauded the effort of the staff of the Health Insurance Authority for bringing the scheme to its current level.

“What you do every day is remarkable in growing the scheme. We are indeed seeing results,” the CEO said.
