Berekum Municipal Assembly presents motor bikes to its members

The Berekum Municipal Assembly in Brong-Ahafo on Tuesday presented 64 motor bikes to its members to facilitate their work.

All recipients including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Stephen Lord Oppong and the Presiding Member, Mr. Kwabena Kyere received their keys at a ceremony to mark the nation’s 55th Independence anniversary celebration at Berekum.

More than 2000 pupils and students selected from 36 basic and Senior High schools (SHSs) in the municipality gathered at the local Methodist school Park for a parade inspected by the MCE.

One hundred and fifty-six teachers also joined the pupils and students in the parade which lasted for about three hours.

Mr Oppong also cut a tape to outdoor two Hono Sino 336 tipper trucks procured by the assembly at the cost of GHC90,000.00, an Ashok Leyland sanitation truck and a fire tender.

Addressing the gathering including heads of departments, the MCE urged tolerance and avoidance of provocative and abusive language to ensure a peaceful biometric voter registration exercise, not only in the municipality but the whole country.

“When we do these, then we shall continue to live in peace and stability but not in war and suffering”, Mr. Oppong emphasized.

He announced that due to prudent management, the assembly qualified for the District Development Facility (DDF) Assessment in 2009 and 2010, and that the assembly had GHC440,000 for developmental projects.

Mr Oppong said the projects comprised the paving of the Kato and Jinijini lorry stations, construction of stop-over markets at Benkase, Amomaso and Botokrom as well as the construction of the Kato market.

At the end of the parade, the best performing schools were given certificates of honour and a wall clock.
