Benneh family institutes education fund at Berekum

The Benneh family of Berekum has instituted a two million-cedi Education Trust Fund in honour of the late Mr. I.W. Benneh for his contribution to education in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr. Benneh, the father of Professor George Benneh, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, was a source of encouragement to many scholars, including his own children, in the region.

He was also instrumental in the establishment of a number of educational institutions.

Prof. Benneh announced this at the 18th Speech and Prize-giving Day of Berekum Training College on Saturday.

Presenting the cheque for the amount to be invested in government treasury bills, Prof. Benneh said that, under the fund, four hard-working personalities of the college would be awarded cash prizes annually.

The best teacher award winner will receive 200,000 cedis; the best worker 100,000 cedis; and the best students in Mathematics and Social Studies 50,000 cedis each plus a set of books.

Prof. Benneh, on behalf of the family, donated prizes to this year’s winners of the award at the function.

Mr. A.A. Acheampong was adjudged the best teacher while Miss Cecilia Boateng Senior Domestic Bursar, won the best worker award.

Master Samuel Antwi and Master Andrews Bediako were adjudged best students in Mathematics and Social Studies respectively.

Nana Kwabena Ameyaw, Chairman of the board of governors of the college, thanked the family for instituting the fund, which would boost morale and encourage competitive spirit among students and teachers.
