BECE candidate writes exams flat on stomach

New Abirem, (E/R) April 27, GNA – An 18-year-old pupil of the New Abirem L/A “B” Junior High School, Cynthia Ayisi had the unfortunate experience of writing her Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for this year.

She had to lay flat on her stomach to write the examinations. She had serious burns on her buttocks, fingers and feet after falling into a boiling palm oil on April 10. Narrating her sad incident to the Ghana News Agency before the

start of the mathematics paper at the New Abirem/Afosu Senior High

School centre at New Abirem, the girl said during the Easter break,

she was helping her mother to process the palm oil when she

accidentally slipped and fell into it. According to the girl who wants to be a nurse in the future, her

mutual health insurance has expired and as a result could not go to

the hospital for treatment and had to go to a chemical shop for

medical assistance. Meanwhile Eric Atakorah, Birim North District Director of

Education has intervened by appealing to the authorities of the New

Abirem Government Hospital who have agreed for the girl to be

given proper medical treatment.
