Be sensitive to the plight of the needy – Rev Minister

Kumasi, June 30, GNA – Reverend Samuel Frempong Kwofie, Minister in-charge of the Saint George Church in Kumasi has asked lawyers and judges to be sensitive to the plight of the people, especially the poor and needy in society.

They should also be bold and refuse to allow themselves to be intimidated in the course of pursuing justice for mankind.

Preaching the sermon at a memorial service to mark the 29th Martyrs Day in Kumasi on Thursday, Rev Kwofie said it was important for them to be truthful to their work and be righteous in their judgment.

The Martyrs Day is an annual memoriam in honour of the three high court judges who were abducted and brutally murdered on the night of June 30, 1982.

They were Mr Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie, Mrs Justice Cecilia Afran Koranteng Addow and Mr Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong.

Relating the sermon to the life of Nehemia in the Bible, Reverend Kwofie, said the greatest tribute members of the bar and the bench could pay to the memory of the murdered judges and all people who had died in the pursuit of justice and peace was to exhibit the spirit of Nehemia, by showing sensitivity to the welfare of society and overcoming intimidation.

He encouraged them to always pray to God for strength to perform their duties and let their standard be in tune with the word of God.

Reverend Kwofie questioned the rational behind the support for same sex marriage by some people under the guise of human rights and civil liberties and appealed to lawyers to lead the crusade against the practice in order to protect the future of the nation.
