Bawku Beauticians tidy up the municipality

Bawku, June 30, GNA – The Bawku branch of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) has undertaken a clean-up exercise in the Bawku township as part of its week celebration.

The members desilted choked gutters along the principal streets and swept the new market and lorry parks. Speaking to the GNA, the President of Bawku GHABA, Miss Amina Shaiba, said the association was concerned about the appalling environmental sanitation in the municipality and therefore decided to do something about the poor situation.

“Members of the association thought it wise to complement efforts of the municipal assembly to improve the look of the township,” she added. She stressed the need for public education to make everyone aware of the dangers posed by unsanitary conditions in order to galvanise support to clean their surroundings.

Miss Shaiba called on the assembly to enforce its bye-laws on sanitation to reduce the incidence of disease, which has assumed an alarming rate in the area.

Addressing the GHABA members, the Municipal environmental Health Officer, Miss Elizabeth Nyabase, commended the association for their foresight in undertaking the clean-up exercise. She hinted that the assembly was in the process of coming out with modalities to revive the communal spirit to rid the municipality of filth to reduce the spread of diseases. Miss Nyabase cautioned that any one found to have gone against the laws on sanitation would be severely dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others.
