Barber remanded for defilement

Kojo Arienso, a barber, who was discharged by an Accra Circuit Court for defilement, has gone before the same court on a similar charge.

Soon after Arienso had mounted the dock and his charge read to him, the trial judge enquired whether he had been brought before her over a similar charge.

Prosecution indicated that the complainant in the case was different, adding Arienso is being held for allegedly defiling an 11 -year at Nima.

Court: why is it that you are the only one that people have been accusing of defilement?

Accused person: I don’t understand. It’s a frame up.

Charged with defilement, Arienso 30 had pleaded not guilty. The court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded Arienso into lawful custody to reappear on May 11.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Judith B. Asante said the complainant is a businessman living with his daughter at Nima whiles the accused resides at New Town.

On April 18, this year, at about 5:00pm, the complainant was informed by his nephew that he saw Arienso who had his shop in the vicinity, holding the hand of the victim.

Prosecution said a few minutes later, the victim arrived home and her father enquired from her as to where she had been.

Inspector Asante said the victim told the complainant that she was passing in front of accused barbering shop when he asked her to go and buy him sachet water.

When the victim returned with the satchet water, Arienso who had allegedly defiled the victim on two different occasions, spread a brown blanket behind the door of the barbering shop and had sex with her.

Prosecution said the victim led the complainant to the accused barbering shop and where he was apprehended and sent to the Police Station.

When the accused was led to the crime scene, he admitted the offence and pleaded with the complainant to have mercy on him and urged the Police to discontinue with the case.

However, Arienso in his caution statement denied the offence.
