Barber remanded for defilement

Fiapre (B/A), June 29, GNA – A circuit court at Fiapre, near Sunyani has remanded a 25-year-old barber, Emmanuel Tabiri, into prison custody for defiling a 14-year-old primary six school girl at Nsoatre and causing an unlawful abortion with a concoction.

Tabiri pleaded not guilty to two counts of defilement and abortion and will reappear before the court on July 13.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu told the court presided by Mr. Benjamin Osei that Tabiri and the victim lived in the same vicinity at Nsoatre.

He said on March 6 the victim went to Tabiri’s barbering shop to have her hair cut but the accused defiled her.

The prosecutor said last month the victim realized that she was pregnant and informed Tabiri about it.

Tabiri invited the girl to his shop on May 15 and gave a concoction to her to abort the pregnancy.

Chief Inspector Ofosu said a few hours after taking the medicine the victim started bleeding and informed her father about it.

The father together with the victim reported the incident to the police and Tabiri was arrested.
