Barber jailed for escaping from custody

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA – A 27-year-old barber who escaped from the custody of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Ministries was on Wednesday sentenced to four years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Charged with escaping from lawful custody, Billa Gariba pleaded guilty.

He was picked up by soldiers when he was found having sex with a minor at the beach.

In his explanation to the Court Gariba said: 93I have never experienced such a problem in my life, hence I escaped.”

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police Sarah Acquah told the court that Gariba resides at Nima in Accra.

On August 24, he was arrested by some soldiers when he was having sex with a minor at the beach at dawn.

On August 25, while he was being cautioned by Police Officers on the first floor of the DOVVSU Building, Gariba ran through the window of the first floor to the ground floor and jumped over the wall but he was arrested.
