Barber jailed 12 months for assaulting wife

Juaso (Ash), June 25, GNA- A 35-year-old barber who subjected her wife to severe beatings has been jailed 12 months in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court. Tony Obeng, the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that the complainant, Ernestina Sape was the wife of Obeng and nursing a one-year-old baby. The prosecutor said there had been some misunderstanding between the couple in recent times compelling the complainant to vacate her matrimonial home to live with a relative. He said on June 6, the accused went to the complainant’s house and asked her to accompany him to Nkwanta near Juaso but the complainant refused.

According to Chief Inspector Mahama, without any provocation Obeng pounced on the wife and assaulted her resulting in bruises all over her body.

Not satisfied, the accused followed the complainant who was on her way to report the matter to the police and further assaulted her. The wife, however, reported the case leading to the arrest of Obeng and after investigations charged with the offence.
