A 21-year old barber at Gomoa Awomerew, has been arrested by the Agona Swedru Police, for stealing three laptops and a dictionary, belonging to the Gomoa Awomerew Methodists Junior High School (JHS).
Kwame Akramang, is said to have broken into the computer laboratory of the school, and made away with the laptops presented by the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES) to improve Information Communication Technology (ICT) studies.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul Wesley Baah, Agona Swedru District Police Commander, made this known to the Press at Swedru
He said, at about 2000 hours on August 14, the accused went to the school, and broke into the burglar proof computer laboratory office and picked the items from the room.
According to DSP Baah, on August 18, Mr Kobina Amonuah, a member of the Unit Committee of the town, spotted Akramang with the items and with the assistance of some residents arrested him.
He said the Unit Committee Chairman and others handed the suspect over to the Agona Swedru Police for further investigations.
The District Commander said the suspect during interrogation, confessed having stolen the items.
DSP Baah said he had been charged with stealing, and would be arraigned before Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday, August 26.
The District Police Commander advised School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and stakeholders in Education, to engage watchmen to take care of schools’ items.
He said government spent huge sums from the tax payers’ monies to procure such items as efforts to improve the learning of ICT; and for that matter such important properties should be well protected.
