Antwiagyeikrom (Ash), June 18, GNA- Banning of corporal punishment in schools is a contributory factor to indiscipline in society. This was an outcome of a forum held by parents and guardians at Antwiagyeikrom near Nyinahin in the Atwima district of Ashanti on Thursday.
They said much improvement in the country’s education standard could be achieved if corporal punishment was re-introduced. Mr Kwasi Boakye, chairman of the local School Management Committee (SMC), said the best legacy that a parent could leave for his child was quality education.
He therefore advised parents not to neglect their children to fend for themselves.
Mr Kofi Iddrisu, unit committee chairman asked women to actively involve in the education of their children.
Mr Kwasi Antwi-Boasiako, chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), said poor toilet facilities and the dumping of refuse on school compound were causing serious environmental hazards to the pupils and teachers and called on the community to re-site the refuse dump.
Nana Kwasi Antwi-Adjei, an elder of the town who presided, advised the parents and the teachers to refrain from using bad language in the presence of children and also lead good lives worthy of emulation. 18 June 04
