Banker Remanded For Stealing 1.1 Billion

An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Mr. Willie Wise Kyeremeh has remanded Cephas Asuo, a Banker into prison custody. He is to reappear on September 22 for his plea to be taken.

The facts of the case are that the complainant is the head of the legal department of the SSB Bank in Accra. The accused is a staff and a Systems Analyst of the Information Technology Department of the Bank.

On a recent review of the operations of the Bank, it was detected that the accused has manipulated the software of the computers and succeeded in withdrawing an amount of 1.1 billion cedis. It was also detected that he used some accounts of some known customers for his operations.

During investigations, the Police retrieved three vehicles, a Golf Saloon, a Hyundai Excel and an Opel Kadett. They also recovered four computers and its accessories from him.

Further investigations also revealed that the accused has built four storerooms at Kaneshie with part of the stolen money.

After investigations, he was charged with two counts of uttering forged documents contrary to section 169 and stealing contrary to section 124 both of the Act 29 of 1960.
