Bank presents computers to deaf school

Jamasi (Ash), Nov 30, GNA- A bank in Holland, ING has, through SKPO, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) also based in the same country, donated 25,000 euros (25 million cedis) to the Ashanti School for the Deaf at Jamasi in the Afigya-Sekyere District for the establishment of a computer laboratory at the school.

Disclosing this to the Ghana News Agency at Jamasi, Mr Gerard Schnieders, a member of the NGO, said the donation followed an appeal made to the organisation by Mr J.K. Brantuo, late former headmaster of the school when he visited Holland about two years ago.

He said the organisation aims at stimulating small projects in less-developed countries with focus in West Africa especially Ghana. Mr Schnieders said his NGO approached the friendly bank, which readily provided the amount to help train the deaf children to become computer literate.

He said the organisation had already presented the school with eight computers, three printers, ink cartridges and quantity of printing papers, which will last for about three years.

Mr Charles Boakye-Agyeman, acting headmaster of the school announced that Mr Mark-Brake Spencer, a British, has also donated a cheque for 68,000 dollars to help put up a structure to train the pupils in the use of the computer.

He said the school already has 20 computers and hoped with the assistance from donors, they will achieve their aim to establish a computer laboratory early next year.

Mr Boakye-Agyeman appealed to NGO’S, financial institutions, churches and other benevolent organisation to come to their aid. 30 Nov. 06
