Ban on chalk import starts January next year

The ban on importation of chalk next year, is the top story of the Daily Graphic. The paper writes that the Ministry of Education has disclosed in an interview that there will be a ban on the importation of chalk with effect from January, next year. The story says between 1998 and 1999, the Ministry spent over 8 billion cedis to import chalk for use in public schools in Ghana. The paper says that the measure is, therefore, aimed at enhancing the productive capacity of local chalk manufacturers and to encourage the patronage of made-in-Ghana goods.
