B.T. BABA: I am going to hit the ground running

MP-elect, Benson Tongo Baba, has said he has no time to waste than to hit the ground running with developmental projects in the Talensi Constituency to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people.

“I am ready to hit the grounds running because there is no time for me. I will do everything possible within my might to justify the confidence reposed in me by the people,” he noted.

He told Fiifi Banson in interview on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday that he is appreciative of the Talensi people for honouring him with the Parliamentary seat that became vacant following the resignation of Robert Nachinab Doameng Morose in June, 2015.

When asked by Banson what really accounted for his victory, an elated B.T. Baba said his message was what earned him the mandate of the people.

“My message was well received by the people than what my opponents told them. I told them I was going to set the Talensi Development Fund to address the developmental shortfall in the constituency. That is the alternative that I gave them because you can’t rely on MP’s Common Fund all the time. The people know that I am genuine and that I will not come and lie to them. That is what earned me their mandate.”

Mr. Baba, a former Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, polled 10,366 the total valid cast, representing 42.31%, to beat seven other candidates to win the seat.

His closest rival, Thomas Pearson Duanab Wuni from the New Patriotic Party (NDC) polled 6,845 votes, representing 27.94% of the total 24,499 valid votes cast.

The other candidates, Joseph Toatoba from the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) obtained 214 votes, representing 0.87% while Michael Namalteng Wombeogo from the Peoples National Convention (PNC) garnered 6,836 votes, representing 27.90% of the total valid votes cast.

Dennis Atiah Tambil from the Independent Peoples Party (IPP) polled 38 votes while James Mambora Doubil from the New Vision Party (NVP) managed 93 votes.

Philip Bameezina Yaro from the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and Isaac Kungasore from the United Progressive Party (UPP) polled 58 and 49 votes respectively.
