B/A: Albino quits school over stigmatisation

A 19-year-old Visual Arts student of the Atebubu Senior High School in the Brong Ahafo region has quit school over victimisation from his colleagues and community members.

Yusif Fatau said he receives constant threats from members of the community that albinos are not welcomed there.

Out of fear for his life, he decided to quit school.

He told Starr News his parents support his decision to stay home.

“When I pass by the market on my way to school, I hear people saying that if it were in the past, I would have been used for sacrifice.

“And I always hear them saying that so I was afraid for my life and I decided to stop going to the school. Now, I no longer go to school; I am staying home and my parents understand,” he said.
