Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Gomoa Rural Banks to support farmers

Gomoa-Dawurampong (C/R), Sept. 14, GNA – Managers of three Rural banks operating in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Gomoa districts of the Central Region have assured the government of their preparedness to encourage their farming customers to embrace the President’s Special Initiatives on Cassava and Oil Palm.

Mr Jacob Wellington Assan of the Akyampim Rural Bank, Mr John Kofi Anomah of the Awutu Emasa Rural Bank and Mr Augustus K. Yankey of the Awutu-Bawjiase Area Rural Bank were reacting to a Bank of Ghana (BOG) call on Rural and Community Banks to initiate measures to sensitise their numerous clients to take advantage of the President’s initiatives and to assist their customers to make positive financial contribution towards the social development of their communities.

In separate interviews with the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa-Dawurampong, Awutu-Beraku and Awutu-Bawjiase the managers expressed their intention to educate people in their catchment areas to cultivate industrial starch cassava and oil palm.

Mr Anomah and Mr Yankey disclosed that with the support of the government’s Women In Development Scheme their banks had disbursed large sums to several women farming groups to pursue the industrial starch project, adding that the challenge thrown to the rural banks was a step in the right direction.

Speaking to the GNA at Gomoa-Dawurampong, Mr Assan said his bank had already extended similar financial support to farmers engaged in the production of industrial starch cassava and was going to sensitise the young and energetic ones to embrace the idea seriously to ensure the success of the project. 14 Sept. 03
