Auto electrician remanded for stealing

A circuit court in Accra has remanded into police custody an auto electrician, Ernest Aseidu, for breaking into a container at Ashalley Botwe in Accra.

Aseidu and his accomplice, known as Awotian, allegedly made away with assorted recharge phone cards valued at 8,000 Ghana cedis, a DVD player and a Nokia phone all valued at 500 Ghana cedis and cash in the sum of 450 Ghana cedis belonging to one Jesse Joe Ndenwom.

Charged with conspiracy to commit crime, causing unlawful damage and stealing, Aseidu has pleaded not guilty before the court, presided over by Mr M.E. Essandoh.

Aseidu is expected to reappear on September 19.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Tassan told the court that Mr Ndenwom, a businessman and the complainant resides at Madina in Accra.

Chief Inspector Tassan said Aseidu resided at Agbogbloshie.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant on August 30, this year, at 2000 hours locked up his 10 footer container with padlocks and left for home.

Prosecution said Aseidu and Awotian, at about 1800 hours the same day, went to the area to spy on the complainant and they waited at a drinking spot until 1300 hours where they managed to break into the container with a cutter, screw driver and pliers.

The prosecutor said while the accused persons were bolting after the act, a witness in the matter spotted them and raised the alarm.

Aseidu was arrested but Awotian escaped with the items.

In his caution statement, prosecution said Aseidu admitted the offence but stated that he only went to spy for Awotian to break into the container and he (Awotian) stole the items.

Prosecution said when Aseidu was searched the complainant’s Nokia mobile phone, a bag containing a cutter, a plier and a screw driver were found on him.
