Accra, Oct. 27, GNA – Mr Edward Dua Agyeman, Auditor-General, on Friday advised auditors not to do anything that would compromise their integrity and independence as professionals.
He also tasked them to uphold the highest moral standards in their dealings with clients.
Mr Dua Agyeman, whose speech was read by Mr Kwadwo Akowuah, Deputy Auditor-General in Charge of Central Government Audit and Parliament, was addressing the closing of an induction course organized for 108 newly employed staff of the Audit Service in Accra. The four-week course, which focused on Audit Planning and Reporting and Code of Ethics of the Service, was intended to give the new employees an insight into the operations of the Service as well as equip them for the task ahead.
Mr Dua Agyeman said the engagement of such a large number of staff with academic and professional qualifications was in line with the mission of the Audit Service that aimed at promoting good governance in the areas of transparency, accountability and probity in the public financial management system.
“Your mandate, as auditors, is to audit the accounts of all public offices, including the courts, the central and local government institutions, educational institutions and other organizations in which the state has financial interest,” he said. He expressed the hope that the employment of the new staff would go a long way to address some of the unemployment problems facing university and polytechnic graduates.
