Audit service to establish more offices

Salaga (N/R), Feb 12, GNA – The Ghana Audit Service is to establish more offices and residential accommodation at the district level to facilitate its activities in all the administrative districts. This forms part of the Service’s accelerated programme to increase audit coverage of public institutions throughout the country and to ensure that auditing was conducted in a manner that would be free from any internal or external influence.

Mr Edward Agyemang-Duah, the Auditor-General announced this at a sod- cutting ceremony for the construction of a 651 million-cedi office block ffor the Service at Salaga in the East Gonja District. Mr Agyemang-Duah said there were currently 10 district offices of the Service, which were rented in addition to the 17 provided by the district assemblies adding: “These do not foster the autonomous function of the Service”.

He said the office when completed, would cater for the Nanumba North and Nanumba South Districts and this would enable the Audit Service to fulfil its mandate to help fight corruption at the local government level.

He expressed his gratitude to Kpembewura Ibrahim Haruna Kibasibi II, Paramount Chief of Kpembe Traditional Area for releasing land for the construction of the office block.

Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Northern Regional Minister noted that the construction of the building was timely, as it would facilitate the work of the personnel.

He noted that the facility would promote the proper financial control internally and externally and urged the staff of the Audit Service to be more committed to their duties.

The Kpembewura assured government agencies, departments and other non-governmental organisations of his willingness to give out more land for development projects in the district.
