Audio: Abandoned dam kills one

A 28 year-old man has drowned in an abandoned dam at Gomoa Apranu in the Central Region.

Residents say the deceased; Yaw Botwe met his untimely death in the early hours of Tuesday morning when he went to the dam to wash his clothes.

One resident said the deceased had closed from work on that fateful day and had proceeded to the dam to wash but unfortunately got drowned in the process.

He noted that the police officers who arrived at the scene spent hours in the water trying to find Yaw Botwe but to no avail.

Residents say they are leaving in fear since they depend solely on this source of water for their livelihood.

They claim the dam has been neglected for a long time and it has then been a threat to families and the community as a whole.

They are therefore calling on government to as matter of urgency initiate measures to cover the dam.

Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation into the incident and the body has since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
