Attafuah Denies Taking Double Pay

The Executive Secretary of the National Reconciliation Commission, Dr Ken Attafuah has denied allegations that he takes double pay from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice as well as the Reconciliation Commission.

The story carried in the Ghana Palaver newspaper alleged that Dr Attafuah received salaries from the two bodies between November 2002 to February 2003 and that it took the vigilance of the Director of Finance and Administration at CHRAJ to detect the anomaly.

The NRC Executive Secretary told JOY FM that indeed some double payments had been made. But he detected the mistake and proceeded to rectify it and not the other way round as reported by the Palaver.

Dr Attafuah accused the paper of malice and described the report as calculated to destroy his reputation. ”Somebody will write a story without cross checking and indeed proceed to give the impression in this story that they have talked to me when they say that Dr Attafuah defended himself. I did not defend myself before or to anybody, and there is no foundation, no basis for anybody to report a story in this manner and to give the impression that somehow, I have done something wrong”.

According to Dr Attafuah, such stories will not help the country’s young democracy and freedom of expression.
