Apam, Oct. 31, GNA – The Environmental Concern Citizens Association of Ghana on Thursday planted over 500 different species of trees in various parts of Gomoa district, including school compounds and beaches. The exercise is part of an awareness campaign in support of the Presidential Initiative on tree planting and bushfire prevention.
Some decentralized departments in the district, including the Ghana National Fire Service, National Disaster Management Organization and the Forest Service Department took part in the planting.
Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive for Gomoa, assured the Association that the Gomoa District Assembly would support the tree planting exercise.
She cautioned palm wine tapers, farmers, cigarette smokers and hunters in the district to be circumspect in their activities to avert bushfires as the dry season approached.
Ms Aidoo urged communities to plant more trees at schools and other public places.
Mr J.Y. Aidoo, National President of the Association, urged District Assemblies to invest in the Presidential Initiative on tree planting, saying, it would not only generate income to them but would also offer employment to the youth. He said the Association would plant trees in all 110 districts.
