Assembly would help solve Teacher’s accommodation problem – DCE

Nkawie (Ash), Jan 31, GNA – Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive, has given the assurance that the District Assembly would support communities to solve the accommodation problem facing teachers in the area.

He noted that the problem was affecting effective teaching and learning and said the district assembly would encourage communities to initiate programmes to solve the problem especially in the most deprived rural areas.

Mr Yeboah was inaugurating the 37-member Atwima District Co-ordinating Council of School Management Committees (SMCs) at Nkawie on Friday.

The election of members of the council from SMCs in the 10 educational circuits in the district followed a three-month SMCs re-organisation and expansion exercise by the District Education Directorate with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) and Community School Alliances (CSA) Project. Mr Yeboah urged the SMCs to engage in meaningful income-generating programmes to support education delivery.

The DCE acknowledged the satisfactory academic performance of many schools in the district and urged them to strive to improve the record. Mr Ishmael Robert Hayfron, the QUIPS/CSA Training Co-ordinator, expressed the hope that the programme would enhance community participation in school activities.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, Atwima District Director of Education, said a greater percentage of the Assembly’s budget went into education and advised SMCs to reciprocate by contributing towards the promotion of quality education in their localities.

He advised them to continue to sacrifice to improve education for the benefit of the future generation. 31 Jan 04
