Ekumfi Immuna, (C/R), May 20, GNA – The Mfantseman District Assembly is soon to take over all valuable lands under litigation and lease them out to investors.
Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, the District Chief Executive, dropped the hint at a seminar on responsible parenting at Ekumfi Immuna in the Central Region on Tuesday.
It was organized by the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs in conjunction with the National Council on Women and Development (NCWD) and the Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC).
“The assembly will not look on unconcerned while valuable lands lie fallow because of litigation, whilst the people live in object poverty,” the DCE said.
Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said giving out land to investors meant creating employment and wealth for the people to enable them to take good care of their children’s education and other needs.
He said the lack of job opportunities had prompted many people to send their children out to do all sorts of menial jobs some of which were hazardous to their health.
The DCE said litigation brought home nothing than poverty and urged the people to put behind them things that tended to divide them. In a speech read on behalf of Mrs. Gladys Asmah, Minister of Women and Children Affairs, she said there was more to being a responsible parents than riches.
The Minister said responsible parenting could elude both the rich and the poor stressing that the child of the rich who lacked parental love and nurturing because the parent had to stay away from home for long hours at work could end up in bad company and indulge in criminal activities.
Mrs. Asmah advised parents to take interest in their children’s friends and where they spent most of their times.
Mrs. Marian Tackie, Acting Executive Director , NCWD called on Ghanaians to review the socialisation processes in order to remove discriminatory barriers and practices and encourage and support men and boys through education to contribute to gender equality. She appealed to parents to show love rather than be oppressive on their children.
Mrs. Ruth Anderson of the GNCC said Ghanaians had a good cultural heritage of family values, which should not be given up for any other reasons.
“We must all see ourselves as stake holders in ensuring proper upbringing of our families, she said and added that we must love and discipline our children to make them good citizens.
Nana Baah IV, Acting President of the Ekumfi Traditional Council urged couples to cultivate the spirit of forgive and forget to enable their marriages to last.
Mr. Frank Neequaye, Presiding Member of the Mfantseman District Assembly stressed on the need for parents to provide the basic needs of their children.
Mr. Kwamina Amoasi Andoh, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman East appealed to the people to send their children to school to enable them to benefit from the Ekumfi Education Fund.
