Assembly sinks five billion cedis into education

Mankranso (Ash), April 6, GNA- The Ahafo-Ano South District Assembly has over the past three years sunk about five billion cedis into education, Mr Kwaku Obeng Boateng, the District Chief Executive has announced. He said the money went into the provision of new structures, the rehabilitation of old structures and the provision of furniture and other materials.

Addressing an educational forum at Mankranso at the weekend, Mr Boateng said the huge amount spent in the education sector was geared towards raising the standard of education in the district, which was very low.

He therefore charged all stakeholders in education in the district to contribute towards salvaging the low standard of education in the area. The forum, which was jointly organised by the assembly and the district education directorate, was aimed at collating views on how to improve upon education in the district.

It had as its theme: “Improving the Standard of Education through Effective Community Participation in the Ahafo-Ano South District”. Mr Sampson Amofa-Krah, the District Director of Education stressed the need for all to assist in adopting appropriate measures that will help raise the standard of education in the district.

He expressed concern about the deprived nature of the Mankranso Secondary/Technical School, the only senior secondary school in the district and asked that it should be added to the list of schools being raised to the status of a model school as a matter of priority in order to save the situation.

Dr Kwame Osafredu Asubonteng, a soil scientist and citizen of the area, who chaired the function, asked the participants to take education of their children seriously since it was the best investment parents could bequeath their children and was also the key to socio-economic development. 06 April 04
