Assembly saved teachers, students from ejection

Kpetoe, June 8, GNA – The timely intervention of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District Assembly saved teachers and students of Akwetey Junior High School (JHS) from being ejected from a rented building.

Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, the District Chief Executive (DCE), persuaded owners of the building to stop the ejection. The DCE, who was addressing the First General Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly, explained that an opinion leader in the community gave the facility to the school to be used as a classroom and store free of charge but upon his demise, his children rented it to the School.

He said that the Assembly was fast tracking the construction of a three-unit classroom block with office, store, and a library for the School. Mr Adzaho said the Assembly was supporting the District Education Directorate to revive the celebration of the Best Teacher Award, and to complete the construction of a District Education Office so that the Directorate could vacate the rented premises.

He called on the Assembly Members to unite and help in revenue mobilization towards the development of the District, adding that the previous Assembly was 93peaceful and progressive”, and challenge the members to justify the confidence reposed in them by the people.

Mr Adzaho announced that the District has been selected with two other Districts to benefit from an Eco-Tourism Centre through the instrumentality of Mrs Juliana Azumah Mensah, Member of Parliament for the area, and said the district was gradually becoming a major tourist destination.

Madam Mary Tsigbey, Presiding Member of the Assembly, appealed to the members to unite for the development of the District.
