Assembly provides C45m for teacher trainees

The Amansie West District Assembly has made available 45 million cedis to sponsor the training of 45 teacher trainees from the area.

Mr Benjamin Kwakye-Adeefe, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the package formed part of programmes to attract and retain more qualified teachers in the district to raise the standard of education.

He told the people that last year, eight school blocks and two teachers bungalows were completed.

The DCE said the Assembly was also providing an ultra-modern Buruli Ulcer Ward at the Saint Martin’s Hospital, Agroyesum, to help ease congestion at the hospital.

Besides, renovation works are being carried out on a clinic at Mpatuam to enable it serve the health needs of people and its surrounding communities.

Mr Kwakye-Adeefe spoke of material and financial support the assembly was providing to support the “Roll-back malaria”, polio immunisation and HIV/AIDS education programmes.

He said it was also making giant strides in its efforts at poverty reduction and private sector development, adding that, under the poverty alleviation and Emergency Social Relief Programme, an amount of 272 million cedis was given out to some identifiable groups in the area.

The DCE said the Assembly has assisted in the construction and stocking of four fishponds in four farming communities.
