Assembly mandates Urban Council to collect ceded revenue

Wenchi (B/A), May 4,GNA – Wenchi District Assembly has mandated the management of Wenchi Urban Council to collect ceded revenue in the district for the running of the council and to promote the development of Wenchi.

The executive committee approved the decision following a request by the management of the council to the Assembly to offer it the chance to collect internally generated funds for its activities.

By the decision, the Council would collect basic rates, cattle/livestock rates, entertainment rate, hand carts (wheelbarrows/trucks), bicycles and cashew nuts production and exportation rates. Mr. Adu Agyarko Pinsang, chairman of the council who disclosed this to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wenchi said the Assembly’s decision was in the right direction as the revenue would enable the council to carry out development programmes.

He said the council would form a task force to take up the collection of the specified rates, 50 per cent of which would be given to the Assembly.

He appealed to the people to honour their respective tax obligations to generate more revenue for the Assembly and the council.
