Aspiring MP committed to tackling girls’ education in Agona East

Mrs Pokuah Sawyer, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Agona East, has said she would prioritise girls’ education, a major problem in her constituency, when elected in December.

Mrs Sawyer, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Cape Coast, said she was optimistic that she would win the seat so that she would execute her plans and vision of getting more girls to attain higher education through scholarships.

“The trend in Ghana’s politics is that, the people want a change after two terms,” she stated, adding that, people in her constituency were ready not only for a woman MP but someone who would help them to improve upon their standard of living.

Mrs Sawyer is contesting John Kwesi Agyabeng, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate.

At present, the aspiring MP said she was lobbying for more school projects to be built in deprived areas because the area had a challenge in the area of sustaining the interest of girls in school.

“Of every 500 girls enrolled, only 100 continue to pursue their education to the Junior High School level,” she explained.

Mrs Sawyer said she was working with an education-focused non-governmental organization to sponsor about 500 girls from the area from the Senior High School to the university level.
