Breman Asikuma (C/R), Jan 20, GNA – Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency have called on the leadership of the Party to call the MP for the area, Mr P C Appiah-Ofori to order to maintain unity in the party.
In a letter of protest to the National Chairman of the Party signed by 31 members, they asked the MP to stop hiding behind the nine executive members to make “unruly and non factual outbursts” on some radio stations.
The letter, which described the executives as “agents” of the MP said they had targeted the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Sampson Kwame Anfako and some members of the party for no reason.
The protest copied to the media, expressed concern about the MP’s behaviour, which they said was maligning the DCE instead of thanking him for his hard work, which enabled the NPP to win the seat in the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections for a second term.
The petitioners stated that the work of the District Assembly under the leadership of the DCE enabled the MP to win a second term and asked Mr Appiah-Ofori to “leave Mr Anfako the DCE alone to continue his good work to improve living standards of the people in the district”.
They pointed out that with President J A Kufuor’s visit to the District in November, last year, “everything was set to move the constituency in unity resulting in the land slid victory for the party in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections”.
According to them, immediately after the elections, the MP instituted a Disciplinary Committee, which summoned some members and the DCE to appear before it to answer non-existent charges levelled against them. They said none of the members summoned appeared before the committee but the constituency executives wrote to the DCE that they could not work with him.
They called on the National and Regional Executives of the NPP to restrain the MP for the District to get more development under “Positive Change Chapter Two” to move the area forward.
The petitioners appealed to President Kufuor to retain Mr Anfako to continue with his good work to ensure peace, stability and continuity in the District.
