Ashanti regional GJA chairman elected Presiding Member

Juaso (Ash), Nov. 1, GNA – Mr Charles Nana Yaw Osei, acting Ashanti Regional chairman of the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA), was on Friday elected the Presiding Member (PM) for Asante-Akim South District Assembly, at Juaso.

He won the election after two rounds of voting, haven failed to secure two-thirds of the total votes cast after the first round of balloting.

Mr. Osei polled 37 votes and Mr Boakye-Yiadom Manu and Mr Boakye Mensah had 16 and three votes respectively, in the first round. The two however withdrew from the race paving way for a second round of voting with Mr Osei polling 47 out of the 55 votes. Mr Osei would take over from Mr Eric Aboagye, who had held the position since 2004.

Mr Osei commended the other contestants for their solidarity and promised to provide dynamic leadership to enable the assembly to achieve its objectives. He called on assembly members to unite towards the development of the district.
