Ashanti regional EC boss is NDC – Wontumi

The Ashanti regional chairman of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, Kwaku Antwi Bosiako, is accusing the regional chairman of the Electoral Commission of flirting with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the New Patriotic Party’s regional chairman, the Ashanti regional EC boss has deliberately refused to act on the numerous complaints he has filed about the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Ghana’s Electoral Commission is undertaking a 10-day voter registration exercise to register persons who are 18, but do not have their names in the electoral register.

Chairman Wontumi, as he is popularly called, said the EC and the regional police command appear unconcerned about the irregularities being recorded at the registration centers.

“The Ashanti regional EC chairman is a member of the NDC. I am saying it and you can investigate. People are flouting the regulations at the registration centers, and when you report to him, he does nothing about it,” Bosiako alleged on Accra-based Rainbow Radio.

“Even the police don’t care; they have released all the people they arrested for irregularities. Now all the NDC executives have besieged the Ashanti region, and I am ready for them.”
