Asawasi NDC women’s wing prepares for election 2012

Kumasi, March 1, GNA – The Asawasi Constituency Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kumasi Mtopolis on Sunday held its annual general meeting to take stock of its activities and to strategize towards retaining the parliamentary seat in 2012. Hajia Hajara Lucky, the Constituency Women’s Organizer, told them to embark on an intensive political education to help voters to understand government’s policies and programmes. This, she said, was important to check misrepresentation and deliberate distortions by their opponents.

She also underscored the need for them to maintain a united front and to avoid petty squabbles. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for area, said he would work with the leadership of the women’s wing to identify and promote programmes that would inject vibrancy into the party. Additionally, he would continue to support the education of brilliant but needy students.

He said presently he was assisting more than 20 students in second-cycle and tertiary institutions from his share of the MP’s Common Fund. The MP counselled the women to take the education of their children serious, saying this was the way to ensure a better future for them. Alhaji Mubarak asked the women to supervise and train their children to grow into responsible adults, who would make significant contributions to national progress. 01 March 10
