Asawase constituency of the NPP suspends two members

Kumasi, Feb 09, GNA – The Asawase constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended two members indefinitely from the party for flouting the party’s constitution and disregard for authority. A statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday and signed by Mr Peter Otchere, the constituency secretary, named the two card-bearing members of the party as Sheik Issa Sallama and Alhaji Musah.

The statement said Sheik Sallama openly campaigned against the party’s parliamentary candidate in the December 7 general elections and he confided in some people that he would eliminate the parliamentary candidate, Miss Patricia Appeagyei before the elections. ”After the elections he went about preaching ethnicity, religious intolerance and tribalism in the constituency in order to break the united front of the party in the constituency.”

The statement said the constituency executive invited him on three consecutive occasions to answer the allegations against him but he failed to appear before the executive.

Alhaji Musah, the statement said, also campaigned against the parliamentary candidate of the party and appealed to the party members to vote for President Kufuor but vote for the NDC parliamentary candidate ”who is a Muslim brother.”
