Asante-Akim North NDC elects Parliamentary Candidate

Konongo (Ash), Feb. 13, GNA – The Asante-Akim North Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected 54-year-old Thomas Osei-Bonsu, an educationist, to contest the Konongo seat in the upcoming general election. Mr Osei-Bonsu was elected unopposed by popular acclamation because he was the only person who filed his candidature after close of nomination.

This is the second time Mr Osei-Bonsu, who is the Assistant Headmaster of Agogo Collins Senior High School, would be contesting the Konongo seat for the NDC, after losing to Finance Minister Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu in 2004.

The election, which was supervised by the Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission, was held in a calm atmosphere with all the delegates unanimously approving the candidacy of Mr. Osei-Bonsu. In his acceptance speech, Mr Osei-Bonsu said creation of jobs for the youth would be his major task if given the nod to represent the constituency in parliament and challenged members of the NDC to work hard to secure victory. He also promised to address the plight of residents in the Afram Plains area who had over the years been terrorized by Fulani Herdsmen, saying, the situation had not been adequately dealt with. He thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and called for their unflinching support throughout the campaign to wrest the seat from the New Patriotic Party. Alhaji Mohammed Sani, Regional First Vice Chairman of the NDC, called for unity among members of the Party in order to stage an effective campaign to oust the ruling party. He lauded the house-house campaign being spearheaded by NDC flagbearer Professor Evans Atta Mills, adding that it was the best strategy the party could rely on. 13 Feb. 08
