Articulated and heavy duty truck drivers flout police regulations

Kumasi, Nov. 20, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has expressed concern about the manner in which some articulated and heavy duty truck drivers were flouting its directives on the nocturnal movements of their trucks. This follows the recent review of the timing of their movement from 10 pm to 6 am in response to the persistent appeals to the Command. The Command stated that irrespective of any other communication to the contrary, the movement of articulated and other heavy duty trucks was still restricted to the hours of 10pm to 6am and that no such truck should ply the roads within the stated hours in the Region. This was contained in a press release signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, Regional Police Commander, in Kumasi on Tuesday. “The Command will not sit aloof and allow heavy duty drivers and owners to take people’s lives for granted in the face of numerous fatal accidents that have occurred as a result of their driving complacency,” the release noted. It cautioned owners and drivers of the trucks to take note of the directive and act accordingly; stressing that, anyone found flouting the directive would be sanctioned. “The police in the region have resolved to protect the travelling population against the scourge of motor accidents and therefore appealed to stakeholders to support the exercise”.
