Arresting Bawumia will make him a hero – Amaliba

A member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba, has said arresting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for allegedly falsifying documents concerning the register of voters for Togo will make him a hero.

Mr Amaliba also impugned the integrity of the documents presented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prove its case that the 2012 register contained names of Togolese.

“The document they presented to the EC is a doubtful document. It’s a document that we find difficult to identify whether it’s a Togolese register or not.”

Asked if he agreed with the party’s position that the NPP document was falsified, Mr Amaliba said: “I will not take that position because we don’t have in place now the original documents.”

General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said at a press conference Wednesday that the Police must arrest Dr Bawumia for falsifying documents as evidence to back his claims that Ghana’s register had about 76,000 names of Togolese on it.

Mr Amaliba said although he agrees in principle to the NDC’s arrest clamours, doing so will amount to making the economist and running mate to NPP Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, an undeserved hero.
