Apam, April 10, GNA – The youth of Apam have challenged their chief, Nana Edu Effrim, to come out with a list of Apam citizens who were arrested and have their assets confiscated by former President Jerry John Rawlings as alleged in a publication attributed to the chief.
In the said publication, Nana Effrim attributed under- development of Apam to the former President for arresting and confiscating the assets of many well-to-do people who were using their wealth to help develop the town.
The youth debunked that allegation and said the chief was throwing dust into the peoples eyes to cover up his inefficiency.
A spokesman for the youth, who wants to remain anonymous, told the GNA
The spokesman said lack of vision and leadership qualities by the chief rather contributed to under development of the town. He said the chief has no project to his credit in the town since he was enstooled in 1985.
Apam is the only town in Gomoa where no development levy is paid nor communal labour organised.
The spokesman said though Apam is the capital of Gomoa District, the offices of the decentralised departments are at Winneba because there was no land for them to put up these offices in Apam.
”Land is sold to individuals without any account being rendered. No proper account is rendered for a salt industry that a colonial investor bequeathed to the town.”
The spokesman said Nana Effrim supervised the demise of an FM station the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation established to promote literacy programme.
