Abuakwa-Maakro (Ash), Aug 11, GNA – The management of Antwiwaa Education Complex at Abuakwa-Maakro in the Atwima District has put up a 14-unit one-storey classroom block at the cost of 700 million cedis to expand its infrastructure and offer quality education to more applicants.
The complex consists of a pre-school, primary, junior secondary school, vocational and commercial departments.
Mrs E. Adjei-Baffour, proprietress of the school, announced this at a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting held at Abuakwa-Maakro on Tuesday after she had led Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko Atwima District Director of Education to inspect the project.
She said the management was also constructing an additional JSS classroom block to accommodate more pupils.
Mrs Adjei-Baffour said the management had established a 200 million-cedi laboratory with 20 computers and accessories while a dormitory for the vocational department had also been completed at the cost of 100 million cedis.
The projects were financed through resources from the management and the PTA.
Mrs Adjei-Baffour appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to assist the school with furniture, textbooks and qualified teaching personnel.
Mr Obeng-Darko reiterated the government’s commitment to encourage and support private participation in education.
He, however, cautioned proprietors against over-exploiting parents and rather offers quality education to the pupils.
Mr Obeng-Darko advised parents to adequately invest in their children’s education instead of spending huge sums of money on funerals, acquisition of material wealth and other less important social activities.
The District Director said since the school was community-based parents must contribute meaningfully towards its development. Mr Robert Num, headteacher of the basic school, announced that the first batch of the JSS products sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year and expressed the hope to record 100 per cent.
The PTA chairman, Mr Clement Adjei-Agyapong who presided, commended the management and staff for the discipline and academic performance in the school and asked them to sustain it.
He reminded parents of their responsibility to provide the basic needs of their children as well as encourage and support them to study hard not only at school but also at home. 11 Aug. 04
